Teaching Method

His goal as a teacher is to reveal the students artistic side through music education in an enjoyable non-competitive and pressure free zone. Carlos understands each individual student learns at his or her own pace. Adapting to the students learning patterns and behaviors is a skill that Carlos has acquired through over 25 years of teaching private lessons. New students will be introduced to the “building blocks” of music through two simultaneous concepts explained from day one. First, familiarizing the student through basic chord reading leading into standard rhythmic strumming patterns.  Once basic chord progressions are absorbed (series of chords played consecutively with a rhythmic pattern), we introduce vocals.  Once the student can carry melody and harmony at the same time, we begin to acquire a repertoire of songs from their favorite performing artists. At this point, they will have the skills to join a band or perform as soloists if desired. Second, the foundation of rock and roll is the standard 12 bar blues progression.  Carlos introduces a very easy 12 bar blues pattern in order for the student to understand the fundamentals of rock and roll. After getting a firm concept of rock and blues, we begin to explore improvising as well as diving into great music from the present to the past. Carlos also teaches a vast amount of Classical/Spanish music to those students who show interest and are capable of handling complex techniques, harmonies and melodies.
